Description
If you’re looking for a relaxed but exciting way to see the Colorado mountains, this morning Jeep ride is a great pick. It’s about three hours long and takes you through the Camp Hale valley and up into the high country of the White River National Forest. You’ll ride in an open-air Jeep, with safety measures in place, so you can really feel the mountain air and take in the views all around you.
We’ll start on gentle dirt roads and then head higher, up to around 12,000 feet. The scenery changes fast — one minute you’re in thick pine forest, the next you’re above the tree line with expansive views of Colorado’s tallest peaks. Keep your camera handy; there are plenty of stops for photos, and we often see marmots or elk along the way.
Your guide, a local expert with extensive knowledge about the area, will share stories about the region, especially the history of Camp Hale, where soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division trained during World War II. It’s a fascinating bit of Colorado history that gives the landscape a lot more meaning once you know what happened here.
After the ride, we’ll stop back at the lodge for a freshly made, delicious lunch. It’s a perfect opportunity to unwind, engage in friendly conversation with your guide, and reflect on the majestic peaks you just explored.
The entire experience is designed to be welcoming, adaptable, and stress-free — no need for hiking boots or off-road experience. Just bring a jacket, a spirit of adventure, and relish the chance to discover a side of the Rockies that most visitors overlook.
